Vanderbilt outfielder Jacob Humphrey signed a free agency deal with the Colorado Rockies on July 15, 2025.
Humphrey transferred to Vanderbilt after two successful seasons at UMass Lowell. He batted .337 as a freshman and .317 as a sophomore before taking his talents to the SEC.
In his junior season on West End, the righty hit .227 over 44 at-bats with two home runs. He primarily served as a pinch hitter or runner late in games to jumpstart the offense. Notably, he went 12-for-13 in stolen base attempts.
Humphrey carved out a starting role for himself in the 2024-25 season as a senior, participating in 50 games with a .279 batting average. His OBP surpassed .400 by the end of the season, and he swiped 19 total bags. He also had a .984 fielding percentage.
The Maine native will be an asset to the Rockies, as his speed makes him an excellent defender and baserunner. While he won’t hit many balls out of the park, he relies on consistent, strong contact to string together hits. Once he gets on base, he’ll wreak havoc on the basepaths, adding another dimension to any offense.
