Levi Huesman was selected by the Washington Nationals with the 471st pick (16th round) in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Out of high school, the Hanover, Virginia, native was ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state and the No. 5 left-handed pitching prospect in the nation for the 2022 class. Huesman decided to pursue a collegiate career after being drafted in the 17th round (524th overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. The lefty first went to Coastal Carolina, where he had a standout freshman season — 18 appearances (eight starts) for a total of 33.2 innings. Huesman then entered the transfer portal and decided on Vanderbilt to continue his academic and athletic career.
Huesman made 28 relief appearances for a total of 61.2 innings during his two years on West End. In his sophomore season, Huesman recorded 10 appearances with a 6.00 ERA across 12 innings pitched. He made another jump as a junior, throwing 16 innings while surrendering just five earned runs.
The left-hander will decide whether to develop in the Nationals organization or return to Vanderbilt for another year. He’ll have to choose by Monday, July 28th, at 5 p.m. ET — the deadline for drafted rookies to sign their contracts.
