Cornerll transfer forward AK Okereke has committed to Vanderbilt.
Okereke is a 6’7 junior who took a significant step forward during the 2024-25 season. He averaged career-highs in points (13.9), rebounds (4.6), assists (4.1), steals (1.1) and blocks (1.1) per game, all while shooting 59.5% from the field and 32.1% from 3-point range. He led all Cornell players in assists, blocks and steals per contest. He was named to the 2024-25 All-Ivy Second Team for his efforts.
The Clovis, California, native has two years of eligibility left after only appearing in four games in his first year with the Big Red during the 2022-23 season. Okereke was originally a walk-on for Cornell.
Okereke’s facilitation abilities, along with his size and ability to finish at the rim, make him a candidate to be an immediate contributor for head coach Mark Byington and Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball. He’ll join a frontcourt that features returner Devin McGlockton and transfers Jaylen Washington and Mason Nicholson.
