Vanderbilt right-handed pitcher Cody Bowker was selected with the 100th pick (third round) in the 2025 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. Bowker is the third VandyBoy to be taken in this year’s draft and the second Commodore pitcher off the board.
Originally from Bowdoinham, Maine, Bowker was a standout pitcher for Georgetown as a first-year and sophomore. After a breakout sophomore season, where he posted a 3.00 ERA across 48 innings, the right-hander entered the transfer portal and landed in Nashville.
Bowker was ranked as the No. 78 starting pitcher by D1Baseball prior to the 2025 season, and he more than lived up to those expectations. The righty threw four scoreless innings with six strikeouts in his season debut against UC Irvine. A week later, he threw five no-hit innings against St. Mary’s. Bowker rode the momentum through the season as a permanent fixture in Vanderbilt’s elite weekend rotation. He finished the season with a 3-5 record and a 4.38 ERA across 16 starts and 72 innings pitched.
The right-hander will be an asset to the Phillies pipeline with a semi-side arm delivery and a high-spin fastball in the low 90s. The deceptive fastball mixed with several strong secondary offerings provides the foundation he needs to succeed at the next level.
