This week’s photos captured a mix of music, athletics and community engagement across campus. On the field, Vanderbilt Baseball continued its strong stretch with key wins, and both men’s and women’s basketball teams competed in the intensity of March Madness.
Out of the Darkness Walk
Vanderbilt students gathered on Commons Lawn March 21 for the 2026 Out of the Darkness Campus Walk. The event was hosted with collaboration of Active Minds and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention that paired suicide prevention advocacy with reflection, remembrance and community-building.
Patrick Watson performs at The Basement East
Patrick Watson brought his “Uh Oh” tour to The Basement East March 25, delivering an intimate and atmospheric performance that filled the venue with rich instrumentation and poignant vocals. Backed by his band, Watson blended indie rock, chamber pop and classical influences, creating a sound that felt both expansive and deeply personal. The performance showcased Watson’s signature ability to turn quiet emotion into something powerful and immersive.
No Kings part three
The third national “No Kings” protest took place Saturday, March 28, with the Nashville rally starting at Wasioto Park next to Nissan Stadium. Attendees of all ages were seen throughout the park, with many standing while holding banners and signs on the hillside within the park. Many of the signs reference President Donald Trump’s alleged relationship with Jeffery Epstein, alongside other signs calling for protection for the immigrant community within Nashville. Effigies of all sorts of Trump were seen throughout the rally. Nashville’s anti-immigration and Customs Enforcement organization, Migrawatch, was promoted during the rally, with the hosts providing Migrawatch’s hotline during the rally and urging attendees to call them if they need it.
Vanderbilt Baseball
Vanderbilt Baseball returned to form March 24, putting together a dominant showing in a 15-5 win over Tennessee Tech to get back into the win column. Riding that momentum, the Commodores opened their third SEC series of the season against No. 21 Tennessee March 27. In a tightly contested matchup, Vanderbilt edged out the Volunteers with a 3-2 victory in extra innings, sealing the game in the 10th inning.
Vanderbilt Men’s and Women’s Basketball went dancing
No. 2-seed Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball defeated No. 7-seed Illinois, 75-57, in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 on March 23, advancing to the program’s first Sweet 16 since 2009. With the win, the Commodores also completed a perfect home record at Memorial Gymnasium for the first time in program history. On the men’s side, No. 5-seed Vanderbilt fell to No. 4-seed Nebraska March 21 in a tightly contested NCAA Tournament matchup. After a back-and-forth second half, the Cornhuskers took a late two-point lead, leaving Vanderbilt with one final chance. A potential game-winning three-pointer from Tyler Tanner rattled off the rim, sealing a narrow 74-72 loss for the Commodores.
