Vanderbilt Athletics announced the launch of Anchor Advantage on Thursday, Feb. 12, which will now assume direct control of the university’s NIL efforts. This new internal organization will fully absorb and take over the responsibilities of Anchor Impact, which was the independently run NIL collective for Vanderbilt student-athletes since 2021.
The new program is meant to help athletes build their personal brands to connect with top companies and the community, increasing their NIL opportunities. Anchor Advantage will help facilitate brand partnerships, social media collaborations, speaking engagements, content creation, networking events and mentorships.
“By streamlining efficiency and leveraging the full weight of institutional resources, Anchor Advantage serves student-athletes, supporters and Vanderbilt alike as we build sustained excellence,” athletic director Candice Storey Lee said in a release. “Maximizing our NIL efforts reaffirms our commitment to attracting student-athletes eager to win championships and preparing them for success on and off the field. Anchor Advantage is one-stop excellence, connecting student-athletes with the Nashville and Vanderbilt communities deeply invested in their growth.”
This new initiative is in response to the rapidly evolving college athletics landscape, particularly as the NCAA House Settlement was passed this past summer, allowing schools to share revenues directly with student-athletes. The settlement also allows all athletes to sign NIL deals with third parties, but all deals over $600 are now subject to review by a third-party clearinghouse (NIL Go) which will determine if the deal is within a reasonable range of compensation. Anchor Advantage is meant to help facilitate these new deals.
“We are grateful to Paul Grindstaff and everyone who helped Anchor Impact meet a particularly challenging moment in the evolution of college athletics,” Lee said. “Their passion helped drive us forward, and their care for Vanderbilt student-athletes made it clear that our mission to win marches in lockstep with our values and commitment to holistic growth and development for every Commodore.”
This announcement comes following the launch of the Anchor for Her campaign last week, which is designed to support women’s athletics at the university.
