Kevin Preece, a Vanderbilt University Medical Center anesthesiologist and Instructor in Clinical Anesthesiology, was arrested Jan. 22. He is charged with 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and is being held in the Sumner County Jail on a $1.15 million bond, according to jail records. NewsChannel 5 Nashville reported that authorities said the arrest followed the execution of a search warrant at Preece’s Goodlettsville home.
“After learning of his arrest, Vanderbilt University Medical Center immediately placed Dr. Preece on administrative leave. He is a part‑time employee who worked on a very small number of adult cases. He is not permitted to practice at VUMC pending further review,” a VUMC representative said in a message to The Hustler.
WKRN News reported that an affidavit revealed the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline after a user uploaded and shared images suspected to contain child sexual abuse material.
Investigators reviewed 15 files, and records provided by the social media platform, a cellular provider and an email service were used to identify Preece as the source of the uploads. Per WKRN, the affidavit stated Preece “acknowledged use” of an email address and usernames associated with the content. The Hustler could not independently verify these claims.
Senior Kelsea McClurkin shared her experience working with children at the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital and said she was shocked by the reports about Preece.
“I can’t believe someone would do something so deplorable. Hospital staff are supposed to provide a safe space, and the fact that someone who would do something like this was employed at the VUMC is very concerning and provides a call to action for better screening processes when hiring,” McClurkin said. “I hope that the child who was affected and their family have proper support through this process and [Preece] gets the justice he deserves.”
According to the Sumner County Online Court Records System, Preece is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court Feb. 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. CST.

I know Kevin Preece personally and I cannot believe you wouldn’t wait until you get all the facts. SO FAR, there is NO EVIDENCE that any child was compromised by Dr. Preece. WAIT TO PUBLISH UNTIL YOU KNOW ALL THE FACTS. REMEMBER, HE IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. SHAME ON YOU!
