Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball has officially released its nonconference schedule for the 2024-25 season. The Commodores will open the season with four straight games in Memorial Gymnasium, beginning with a clash against Maryland Eastern Shore on Nov. 4.
First-year head coach Mark Byington will then welcome Southeast Missouri, Cal and Jackson State on Nov. 10, 13 and 16, respectively, to round out the homestead.
The Commodores will then head to South Carolina for the Charleston Classic where they’ll take on Nevada on Nov. 21. The Black and Gold will then take on the winner/loser (depending on opening night’s results) of VCU and Seton Hall. Miami, Drake, Oklahoma State and FAU will round out the event’s participants.
After returning home for a Friday duel against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 29, the ‘Dores will go back to the east coast for a clash with newly-forming rival Virginia Tech on Dec. 4.
A primetime duel with TCU at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas on Dec. 8 will mark Vanderbilt’s third confirmed Power Four matchup of the nonconference. Byington’s crew will head back to Memorial Gymnasium to round out their pre-SEC schedule with games against The Citadel, Austin Peay and New Orleans.
Vanderbilt won’t waste time jumping into the fire after a complete roster and front office rebuild last year. Three Power Four matchups, along with the Charleston Classic — which has the potential to yield another depending on each participating team’s success — will keep the Commodores on their toes. Still, with an overhauled roster composed of 11 transfers, two first-years and two returners, the belief is that Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball is ready to compete at a high level.
