Vanderbilt graduate quarterback Diego Pavia has officially been selected as one of four finalists for the Heisman Trophy, the Heisman Trophy Trust announced on Dec. 8. Pavia will now fly to New York for the Heisman ceremony on Dec. 13, hoping to hear his name called as the eventual winner.
The Heisman Trophy is given annually to the most outstanding player in college football that season. Several notable past winners include Travis Hunter, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and many more players that are currently succeeding in the NFL. Pavia now looks to be the first-ever Heisman winner from Vanderbilt.
The New Mexico native has had a record year in the Black and Gold, accumulating 4,018 total yards for 36 total touchdowns on a 71% completion rate. He currently ranks No. 4 in the country in average QBR and No. 2 in the country in EPA. Pavia also set the program’s single-game passing yards record against Kentucky two weeks ago, cementing his legacy as one of the best statistical quarterbacks in Vanderbilt history.
Outside of his individual stats, he’s brought Vanderbilt to its first 10-win season in program history. The Commodores have knocked off a program-record six SEC foes this year — South Carolina, Missouri, LSU, Kentucky, Auburn and Tennessee — all with Pavia under center.
His fellow finalists include Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.
The Heisman Trophy ceremony will air on ABC at 6 p.m. CST on Dec. 13.
