This will be the Commodores’ first time in the Big Dance since 2017, when they dropped a Round of 64 contest to the Northwestern Wildcats.
Four regular season wins over AP Top 15 teams — a program record — helped propel the Black and Gold to 20 wins and a spot in March Madness. Vanderbilt took down then-No. 6 Tennessee, then-No. 9 Kentucky and then-No. 14 Missouri inside Memorial Gymnasium, along with a road win against then-No. 12 Texas A&M in College Station.
The ‘Dores also picked up wins over Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss and LSU in their quest to an 8-10 record and the No. 12 seed in the SEC Tournament, where they lost a rematch to Texas.
Now, Vanderbilt will take on a new foe in the Gaels. The specific timing of the matchup is still to be determined. The teams will play for a chance to be in the Round of 32, where they will face either No. 2 Alabama or No. 15 Robert Morris.
