Vanderbilt’s Taste of Nashville program, which allows students to use their meal money account at select Nashville restaurants, experienced a system-wide payment outage from Feb. 6 to Feb 11. Students began reporting issues after restaurants were unable to take payments through the program, and though service has been restored for some locations, others remain temporarily unavailable.
Vanderbilt Campus Dining posted a notice on their website and Instagram story confirming the payment system outage, noting that Commodore Card transactions via Grubhub were still working. In an email to The Hustler, a Campus Dining representative described their response to the incident.
“We were notified on Friday that the payment system used at Vanderbilt was experiencing a nationwide outage,” the representative said. “Once we became aware of the issue, we shared updates with our campus community through a DiningNews alert text message and updates on Instagram to ensure students were informed as quickly as possible.”
Although Campus Dining was unsure when Taste of Nashville would return, the statement confirmed that staff were actively working on the situation.
“Our staff monitored the outage closely throughout the weekend and can confirm that progress is being made toward full system restoration,” the representative said. “Once the issue is resolved, we will promptly communicate the update to the Vanderbilt community.”
Sophomore Darren Wang said he attempted to use his meal money at I Love Sushi, a restaurant part of the Taste of Nashville Program. However, he was unaware that the restaurant was unable to accept meal money until he was already seated in the restaurant.
“Did we really want to drop $25 on I Love Sushi when we couldn’t use our [meal money]?” Wang said. “So, we decided to actually leave the restaurant, but there were really no other options in the area that were not on meal money.”
