After the Ash, an experimental climate documentary by Podcasts Editor Jaylan Sims, follows Scott W., a resident displaced by the 2018 Leilani Estates eruption, as he journeys across Hawaii’s volcanic landscapes. The film highlights the resilience of life on newly formed land shaped by molten rock and relentless eruptions. It explores the paradoxical nature of volcanoes as forces of both destruction and renewal that reshape the Earth and foster new ecosystems.
