After no ticket received more than 50% of the votes in the Vanderbilt Student Government presidential election, there will be a runoff election March 26 with voting open from 8 a.m. CDT to 8 p.m. CDT. The two tickets on the ballot in the runoff will be sophomores Simran Fitzpatrick and Will Dean and juniors Stella Rodriguez and Miguel Kamgaing Kamgaing.
1731 students voted in the initial election, with 43.9% voting for Fitzpatrick/Dean, 33.27% voting for Rodriguez/Kamgaing Kamgaing and 22.35% voting for juniors William Song and Manushree Navaneethakrishnan. Results of the runoff will be announced March 27 in Rand Hall.
Kamgaing Kamgaing encouraged students to vote in the runoff election.
“Transparency is key, and Stella and Miguel are trying to bring transparency from the institution to the students,” Kamgaing Kamgaing said. “[The runoff] is the more important voting session right now, so get out and vote.”
Fitzpatrick commended the other candidates for their campaigns in a message to The Hustler.
“We’re not surprised that this election has gone to a runoff; all three tickets ran thoughtful and energetic campaigns, and it’s encouraging that so many students engaged in the process,” Fitzpatrick said. “Will and I have invested so much energy into Vanderbilt Student Government since freshman year, and this campaign has only deepened our commitment to the org and the student body.”
Current VSG president Soham Saraf emphasized in a message to The Hustler that all students can vote and that students can go to the nonpartisan candidate database for more information about the candidates.
