Vanderbilt goalkeeper Sara Wojdelko has officially signed with the Washington Spirit in the NWSL, marking the first ever Vanderbilt goalie to be signed to the league.
Wojdelko had back-to-back breakout season for the Commodores, leading them deep into the postseason in both years. During the 2024 season, she started 17 contests and posted 54 saves. The Michigan native had a season-high 14 saves against defending national champions Florida State to send the program to its first Sweet 16 in postseason play. This season, she started in 23 games and posted 11 shutouts — the third most in a single season in program history — en route to Vanderbilt’s berth to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The graduate student racked up 58 saves on the year, the most of any year during her storied college career with the Commodores.
After five years with the Commodores, Wojdelko registered a 0.72 goals-against-average — the second-best in program history. She is perhaps the most decorated Vanderbilt player in history, being named 2025 SEC Goalkeeper of the Year, First Team All-SEC and a Second Team All-American in her final season.
She’ll now transition to the professional ranks, fighting to make an impact for the Washington Spirit when the season kicks off in March.
