Vanderbilt Football STAR Randon Fontenette has officially entered the transfer portal, as first reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3. This marks a significant departure for the Commodores, as the junior was a critical piece to head coach Clark Lea’s rebuild of the program in the last two years.
The Texas native had a breakout year in 2024, in which he totaled 73 tackles and eight tackles for loss. He had a team-high eight pass break-ups and also recorded a pivotal pick-six in Vanderbilt’s historic victory over then-No. 1 Alabama. In 2025, Fontenette’s production went down slightly, as he finished the season with 52 total tackles and one forced fumble.
Fontenette spent his freshman season at TCU before transferring to Vanderbilt for his sophomore and junior seasons. He’ll now try to find his third school with one year of eligibility remaining. With the departure of fellow STAR Jailen Ruth to the transfer portal, Lea will be forced to address this gap on his roster for the 2026 season.
