Vanderbilt Swimming fell 260-87 to Indiana State and 262-85 against Illinois in a tri-meet at Vigo County Aquatic Center in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Nov. 6-7. Sophomore Aubrey Hall captured two individual victories over the weekend, bringing her to a team-lead with 12 individual victories. It was the second consecutive weekend the team competed before a two-week break heading into its final meet of the fall season.
“It’s a quick turnaround going into a two-day meet,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “It’s something we don’t get to do very often, but I think swimming on back-to-back weekends gives us an opportunity to prepare for our midseason meet in a couple of weeks as well as the chance to swim all four relays over two days. Splitting the events up also allows us to put greater focus on each individual event.”
Vanderbilt’s A team started the weekend with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, with Illinois and Indiana State placing first and second, respectively.
Ellie Butler kept the momentum going with a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.14. She holds the second-best time on the team after making her collegiate debut in the event. Hall took home Vanderbilt’s first win of Friday night with a time of 2:02.40 in the 200-yard backstroke. She was followed by Quinlan Hinerfeld, Grace Ciaramitaro and Sadie Suppiger, who finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
Bailey Ratzburg missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.30. The ‘Dores ended the night with their A team placing sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Vanderbilt’s A team earned another podium finish with a third-place result in the 200-yard medley relay. Hall won her second event of the weekend in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Melissa Cowen led the team in the 200-yard breaststroke with a third-place finish followed by sophomore Emily Constable in fifth. The team struggled in 200-yard freestyle, as it did not score a top-ten finish. Raztburg once again led the team in the individual medley, securing seventh place. Kate Hientz led Vanderbilt in the 100-yard butterfly with a fifth-place finish, with Butler finishing seventh. Vanderbilt’s A team fell short of a top five finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, placing sixth with a time of 3:34.97.
Vanderbilt will return on Nov. 19 to close out the fall season at the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston, Texas.
