Over a week away from classes, Hustler staffers enjoyed their time both on and away from campus.

This Thanksgiving, I flew down to Colorado to visit a friend in Fort Collins. We enjoyed some very heartwarming dishes, as well as time with friends and family. During my stay, I walked around the neighborhood and downtown Fort Collins with my camera and captured these fleeting moments.

Thanksgiving break at home in east Tennessee was mostly about lounging, eating and finals prep because general chemistry doesn’t take holidays, although I wished otherwise. When I arrived, I was greeted by a breathtaking sunset that felt like a warm welcome home from the universe. I may have missed the vibrant fall colors this year, but these views were the perfect reminder of the beauty awaiting me.

I spent my Thanksgiving break in a few different places doing many things — from catching up with old friends in our local diner or exploring the streets of Manhattan, New York. No matter where I was or what time of day it was, the beautiful views of the sky followed me. The simple joy of being with the ones I loved was a breath of fresh air, which was much needed as we head into finals season!

As the campus hubbub died down, I spent the week reflecting on my semester amidst a quiet Vanderbilt. I stepped outside and around the Vandy bubble on boba runs, cafe-hopping adventures and Black Friday shopping sprees. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to catch my breath and unwind with some of my close friends.

I spent my Thanksgiving break at home in San Diego, enjoying quality time with my family and, most importantly, with my dog Layla. The warm, sunny weather was a welcome escape, and I made the most of it by visiting some of San Diego’s beautiful beaches. It was the perfect opportunity to soak up the sun while also getting a head start on upcoming assignments.

This Thanksgiving break, I traveled to New York City and had the opportunity to watch the whole city transition from autumn to winter. I had so much fun revisiting some of my favorite spots from previous trips, but I also loved being able to explore new places. From trying out new bakeries to museum-hopping, this one-week period was a nice break and a very memorable trip.

The landscapes of middle Tennessee exuded a serene splendor amidst the gentle hush of Thanksgiving. Along the waters of Couchville Lake, hues of fall’s fading brilliance mingled with the muted tones of winter’s approach. By night, while solemn barges rested in the shadowy embrace of Cumberland River, the quietness of time gave way to a luminous display of festive cheer in downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. These fleeting moments of discovery thus complement a time of gratitude as the cadence of nature met the flow of history beneath a canopy of soft November skies.

I traveled home for Thanksgiving and spent a much-needed break hitting my favorite spots in my hometown, new and familiar. A friend and I explored the Quadrant Book Mart & Coffee House, a quaint and charming little spot downtown that carries both flavorful caffeinated drinks and a vast assortment of literature.

My family and I took a short road trip down to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where we fell in love with the autumn colors of the Tennessee Valley and surrounding mountains. The trees would flicker past our car windows with gorgeous reds and oranges, a warm sight against the approaching chill of winter. We stayed cozy and relaxed during our stay, with the help of delicious meals and a hot tub, but spent plenty of time enjoying river and mountain views and the loveliness of downtown.
