Barista Parlor: Now brewing in Hillsboro Village

The Nashville-based coffee brand blends art and commerce at its newest shop in Hillsboro Village.

Barista Parlor’s coffee-centered set-up features a long row of bar chairs and two-seater tables against the opposing wall.

Born in East Nashville just over nine years ago, Barista Parlor serves specialty coffee, tea, pastries and eats in an environment perfect for weekend studying or meeting up with friends. The Hillsboro Village shop opened on Monday, Sept. 20 directly adjacent to Jeni’s, just over a year after Revelator Coffee Co. closed its doors in the same location. Barista Parlor looks to grow the popular local coffee scene near Vanderbilt’s campus along with favorites Anzie Blue, Fido, meet + greet, Poindexter, Three Brothers and more.

I stopped in to try a cup of coffee during Monday morning’s soft opening and ordered a black cold brew; the coffee was fantastic with notes of chocolate and a smooth finish. The current summer menu features your typical black coffees and teas along with specialty drinks such as Vietnamese Cold Brew and Bourbon Vanilla Espresso. Drink prices are on par with Anzie Blue where a black cold brew goes for $4.50, and speciality drinks/lattes run for over $6.

A rainy Monday called for some coffee. Barista Parlor’s neon sign hangs outside its white brick wall– welcoming new and old customers inside this fresh Hillsboro location. (Hustler Staff/Sam Blum).

The food is noticeably more affordable at Barista Parlor where most eats are under $10, though I did not get a chance to see how the portions compare since the kitchen will first open up in a couple of weeks.

The shop is suited well for studying, featuring six tables with bench and chair seating, eight bar stools on the coffee bar, plenty of outlets, free WiFi and not-too-loud music.

An array of plants and greenery supplements the wood tables and Yama cold brew towers. There are panels of wall art that will be unveiled later this week to match the familiar look and feel of other Barista Parlor interior designs, but each with their own unique art panels. The beautiful artwork and attention to detail of the shop drew attention when the first Barista Parlor opened its doors in 2012.

Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day of the week, Barista Parlor features plenty of coffee and tea varieties, food options, coffee brewing equipment and shop merchandise, and they hope to join the Taste of Nashville program with Commodore Card support soon.

Whether you stop in for a morning coffee to-go or a few hours of grinding through Sunday afternoon studying, the new Hillsboro Village location will satisfy your caffeine cravings.
