IN PHOTOS: Summer 2025 around the globe

Hustler photographers spent their summers traveling throughout the United States and the world, documenting their journeys along the way.

From traveling across Europe to interning for politicians, Hustler staff members were busy all throughout this past summer.

Jo Anderson, Staff Photographer

I spent most of my summer here at Vanderbilt doing research, but my personal highlight was my long weekend at Norris Lake in East Tennessee right before coming back to campus. I had just purchased a new camera and was eager to test it out on everything from landscape shots to spontaneous photoshoots with my friends.

I spent most of my summer at home in Pennsylvania, adding to my Merlin Life List and photographing birds whenever they didn’t zip away too quickly. I also traveled to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, where I was lucky enough to see many different forms of wildlife including mountain goats. Finally, I explored Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka in Japan with my family, touring both ancient temples and modern sites.

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with my local congresswoman’s office in New Jersey. When I was not interning, I took a few local trips along the East Coast. I traveled to Boston for my cousin’s wedding in June, visited Vermont for my 20th birthday in July and made two stops in Washington, D.C. at the beginning and end of summer. While at home, I made a few visits to New York City with friends and spent time with my cat.

Alice Chen, Staffer-in-Training

From hanging out with my high school friends in New York City to transitioning to Vanderbilt, I had an eventful summer this year. For the majority of my summer, I was at Vanderbilt University, participating in the Fall Early Start Transition Bridge Program for the School of Engineering.  I was also able to celebrate my 18th birthday on campus with my new friends. When I returned to New York City, I spent as much time as possible with my friends exploring, including watching a New York Mets game and going to museums.

Maya Eid, Staffer-in-Training

I spent my summer experiencing new opportunities. I toured Vanderbilt before deciding to transfer for my sophomore year (Anchor Down!). Apart from my summer research internship in my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I traveled across southern France before heading to Lebanon to visit my family. Of course, I also made time for my family and friends back home, from playing pickleball to going to a few Pittsburgh Pirates games with them.

I spent two months in Europe this past summer. In May, I visited Central and Eastern Europe with my family. In June, I lived in London for an internship. I thoroughly enjoyed the different European cultures and landscapes. Through photos, I was able to capture not only the scenery, but my heartfelt feelings as well. I can remember how the castles in Edinburgh and Bratislava overlooking the hills mesmerized me, how the astronomical clock in Prague almost slowed down time with its magic and how beautiful music flowed from the church organs in Vienna, Austria.

Chloe Kim, Staff Writer and Photographer

Despite being Korean American, this summer was the first time I went to South Korea. I fell in love with aspects of the country as I explored the beautiful oceans of Jeju Island and the mountains of Wonju. This summer was filled with new discoveries and immersion into my cultural identity.
