Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball (22-10, 8-8 SEC) has officially been named as a No. 7 seed in the Birmingham region of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Commodores will take on the 10-seeded Oregon Ducks in the Round of 64. Tipoff is on Friday, March 21 (the timing of the game is TBD) and it will be played in No. 2-seeded Duke’s arena, Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
The Black and Gold are back in the Big Dance for the second year in a row after qualifying for the 2024 postseason as well. Last year, head coach Shea Ralph’s squad made a trip to the NCAA Tournament First Four, where they bested Columbia in a thriller to advance to the Field of 64. Ralph and Co., a 12 seed, were then bounced out of March Madness after an 80-63 loss to No. 5 Baylor.
The situation is different this time around, though, as Vanderbilt has earned a bid directly to the Round of 64. The Commodores made it to this point thanks to a .500 SEC record, which featured ranked wins over then Nos. 15 and 19 in Tennessee and Alabama, respectively, in the regular season. That record earned the team a bye to the second round of the SEC Tournament as an eight seed. It then traveled to Greenville and defeated then-No. 18 Tennessee — Vanderbilt’s first time ever beating the Lady Volunteers twice in the same season — before dropping to No. 5 South Carolina in the quarterfinals.
The Commodores and Ducks will square off with a spot in the Round of 32 up for grabs. The winner of the matchup will take on the victor of the game between No. 2 Duke and No. 15 Lehigh.
