Having followed Dylan Gossett’s journey for a while now, it has been incredible to watch his rise in the music scene. Dylan Gossett brought “The Back 40 Tour” to Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium on Oct. 23. This show marked Gossett’s second headlining show in Nashville and his return to Music City on his brand new tour. I was ecstatic to see Gossett again after covering his show during his last tour where he played at Exit/In. It was amazing to see his growth in just a few months, when he went from playing a small venue to one of the most iconic ones in the city.
To start the night, Gossett’s opener, James Tucker, took the stage. Tucker’s set was a fun opening, and, even though he mentioned he was extremely nervous, his stage presence was unmatched. Two of my favorites from his set were “Stay Home Tonight” and “Man I Am.”
Shortly after Tucker’s set, Gossett hit the stage. The show featured a live band, including a banjo player and even Gossett himself on the harmonica for a few songs. Gossett’s set featured many of his hit-songs like “To Be Free” and “Lone Ole Cowboy.” One of my favorite parts of his show was his song “Beneath Oak Trees,” which he mentioned was about his wedding day and the impact of his relationship with his wife, who encourages him to pursue music full-time. Closer to the end of the night, the crowd was alive and clapping along joyously to his song “Finally Stop Dreaming.”
Gossett and his band truly brought their Austin roots to Nashville with their upbeat and lively performance. It seemed the crowd enjoyed them as much as I did, because they cheered for an encore once the band left the stage. Gossett’s incredible night at the Ryman is another step in his journey to becoming a household name in the country music scene!
