After serving 11 years as Chancellor of Vanderbilt, Nicholas Zeppos announced April 2 that he would be stepping down from the position in August. Susan Wente, Current Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, will serve as the interim chancellor, beginning August 15.
In an email to the community, he told the community that he will be stepping down due to health reasons. After a year on sabbatical, he plans on returning to Vanderbilt’s faculty, where he currently serves as a professor of law. Zeppos is the eighth chancellor of Vanderbilt, appointed by the Board of Trust in 2008.
Wente will serve as the interim chancellor during a national search for Zeppos’s successor. She has served as provost since 2014 and is the leader of the university’s Academic Strategic Plan.
