Vanderbilt point guard Frankie Collins has suffered a torn meniscus and will be out indefinitely, On3’s Joe Tipton reports. The fifth-year veteran has undergone a successful surgery and has begun his recovery process. Collins has served an important role in head coach Mark Byington’s rotation this year, putting up 7.8 points and 4.7 assists in 24.3 minutes a game. He also averages 2.4 steals per game, often tasked with guarding opposing star guards.
The senior missed the majority of the 2024-25 season with a broken foot while he was a member of the Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs. Collins missed the Commodores’ most recent victory over Wake Forest, but was a key contributor to the team’s impressive 12-0 start.
Vanderbilt is currently ranked in the top 11 in the country in KenPom, NET and the AP Poll as it heads toward SEC play. Byington will now be tasked with maintaining locker room morale and adjusting his rotation without Collins. Expect guards Tyler Tanner, Duke Miles and Mike James to all take on larger roles.
The Commodores will play their final non-conference game at home against New Haven on Monday, Dec. 29, at 6 p.m. CST.
