Transfers Jalen Washington and Mason Nicholson have committed to Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball. Washington will join the Commodores after three seasons with North Carolina. Nicholson spent the past three years at Jacksonville State.
Washington is a 6’10 forward who averaged 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game with the Tar Heels in the 2024-25 season. He shot 59.4% from the field and 27.8% from downtown, albeit on just 18 total attempts. He was a former 4-star recruit and the No. 22 power forward in the nation, per 247Sports. He struggled to find playing time in Chapel Hill, with his 15.9 minutes per game last season representing a career-best, but should see extended time with the Commodores.
Nicholson, while also 6’10, is an old-school-style center and was a significant contributor for the Gamecocks last season. He averaged 7.5 points and 7.4 rebounds in 25.9 minutes per game. He has never attempted a 3-pointer in his career but has shot an average of 64% from the field in his first three college seasons.
Both Nicholson and Washington are taller than anyone who played for Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball last season. They will bring in immediate infusion of size to West End.
