No. 15 Vanderbilt Women’s Golf had a strong finish at the Yale Invitational West in La Quinta, California. The event was hosted from March 10-11 at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West. Facing a competitive field with 12 nationally ranked teams, the Commodores secured fifth place, finishing just behind Virginia Tech. Vanderbilt’s lineup for this event featured Lynn Lim, along with Tillie Claggett, Angelina Tolentino, Charlene Chung and Sara Im, with first-year Claire Henson competing as an individual player.
Lim broke her own personal record by shooting an 8-under par on the opening day, making six birdies and an eagle to finish the first round in first place. She led the field after 18 holes and ultimately placed third in the event.
Head coach Greg Allen expressed his satisfaction with Lim’s performance.
“That round by [Lim] has been in the making for a long, long time. She has hit the ball so well for most of her career, and it was nice to finally see the putts drop,” Allen said. “She may have more patience than anyone.”
Vanderbilt began its first round with Claggett following behind Lim’s 8-under, as she finished at 1-over with 3 birdies. Tolentino went 3-over in her first trip around the course while Chung and Im carded 6-over 78. Lastly, Henson, competing as an individual, finished 5-over.
In the second round, Claggett and Im finished 1-under par and had the best performance of all Commodores in the round. Both Lim and Tolentino posted even-par rounds. Chung concluded the line up with a 1-over par score of 73, demonstrating improvement from her previous score of 78. Henson also showed progress by scoring 71, a significant improvement compared to her first-round, 5-over performance.
Lim finished the event third overall, shooting 9-under and having the best score on the team, but Vanderbilt finished in fifth place.
Vanderbilt will return to action from March 24-25 at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas.
