Last Wednesday, Vanderbilt’s campus suddenly became an ant farm as the first day of classes began for the Fall 2024 semester. Nearly everywhere I went, I could see students bustling to class, having friendly chatter with organization representatives or just living their lives seated alone.
Dressed for the occasion
For some, dressing nice for the new semester is a good luck charm or a way to make a good first impression. For others, the first day of class marks a way to express themselves in their favorite casual clothing.
Sophomore Nadeem Zaman opted for a polo with aviator sunglasses, while students in suits and white dresses could be seen everywhere on campus. On the other hand, some students opted for casual attire, typically sporting jeans and a T-shirt with athleisure sneakers.
Reuniting
The first day back to class marks many reunions, whether it be the return of the student organization tables outside of Rand or friends forming groups in the afternoon sunlight.
Settling in
New schedules mark the return of studying outside. Some students are studiously taking notes or completing assignments. Others enact the “play hard” half of Vanderbilt’s mantra, relaxing with outdoor activities on Alumni Lawn. Amidst classes, move-in continues. Sometimes, it does not feel like the start of a new year until you walk back to your dorm with packages in tow!
