An exceptional season for Danil Panarin came to a close on May 20 after a 7-5, 6-3 loss to No. 34 Justin Boulais in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament. The Moscow, Russia native, despite being just a freshman, led the Commodores all season as their first singles player.
Throughout the season, he overcame the age deficit he was often faced with, frequently going up against sophomores, juniors and seniors, all with more experience than him. Despite this, he finished with a 14-12 overall record. He earned himself a top-50 ranking (No. 45) and an invitation to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where the NCAA hosts its tournament for individual singles and doubles players.
Despite the loss, the future remains bright for Panarin, who will likely stay in the first singles position for Vanderbilt Men’s Tennis when play resumes in Fall 2024.
