The No. 27 Vanderbilt Commodores defeated both No. 40 Arkansas (10-9, 3-6) and Missouri (4-17, 0-9) in a pair of weekend matches on March 29 and 31. With the wins, the Commodores moved to 11-5 on the season and 6-3 in the SEC.

The Razorbacks, fresh off a victory over No. 15 South Carolina, gave Vanderbilt all it could handle in a match that finished 4-3 in favor of the Black and Gold. After Arkansas opened by claiming the doubles point, Holly Staff (6-4, 6-0) and Anessa Lee (6-3, 6-3) claimed the lead for the Commodores with singles victories in two sets.

No. 31 Carolina Gomez Alonso upset No. 11 Celia-Belle Mohr in two sets (6-3, 6-2) to tie the match, but Vanderbilt quickly got back on top with a victory by freshman Valeria Ray (7-6, 6-0). Once Razorback Lenka Stara defeated Sonya Macavei (3-6, 6-2, 6-3), the match came down to the third set between Amy Stevens and Kacie Harvey. A late burst by Stevens put her and the Commodores over the edge, clinching the match 4-3.

“We really fought hard on all courts,” Stevens said. “I’m super proud of all the girls and what we accomplished. It was also great to have amazing support from the coaches and fans to help get us over the line.”

Vanderbilt had only one day off before facing Missouri in an 11:00 a.m. start on March 31. Due to illness, the Tigers were limited to four student-athletes and therefore had to forfeit two singles points and one doubles match.

After Staff/Stevens quickly won their doubles match 6-1, the Commodores claimed the doubles point and an early 3-0 team point lead. The match was ended not long after as Staff made quick work of Sophia McLellan (6-1, 6-0) and claimed victory for Vanderbilt.

The Commodores will next be in action on April 5 when they take on Florida in the first of two weekend matches. Only four matches remain before the end of the regular season and the start of the SEC Tournament.
