February brings out the best of heart-shaped chocolate, cheesy romantic comedies and sappy love songs. On Feb. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m., VandyRadio will be bringing back its Valentine’s Day Live Broadcast. Until Feb. 12, notes will be collected in heart-shaped boxes placed in Rand, Commons, Branscomb lobby and one undisclosed location for passers-by to stumble upon. During the live broadcast from Commons, these notes will be read aloud for anyone tuning in to hear.
When VandyRadio was first established as an organization about five or six years ago, this annual show became one of their earliest productions. However, it was forgotten among larger structural changes when the station’s programming underwent major renovations, according to current station manager Ben Dabney. When Dabney was given a list of past ideas upon his rise to the position, he saw an opportunity to wirelessly bring campus together.
“Very little of [the Valentine’s day show] is produced by us; it’s produced by the students that put them in the boxes,” Dabney said. “The draw comes from waiting to hear yours but also hearing ones from people you may or may not know. It’s a lot of fun.”
If you want to give a shout out to your friend or significant other, profess your not-so secret love for Rand cookies or hear an outpouring of campus love, you can participate in the special event by placing your own notes in one of the boxes and tuning into the live broadcast. If you can’t make it out to one of the locations, messages can also be submitted online at any point before or during the show.
