Hey Hustler readers! If you’re anything like me, you’re finding yourself struggling to get excited for the holiday season while braving the perennial 80 degree weather in Nashville. Luckily for Vanderbilt students, we have a sweet way to beat the heat and explore the flavors of fall just walking distance from campus. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams recently released their holiday flavors and I tried every single one to provide a review on how the flavors stack up.
The festive lineup ranges from tame flavors like Pumpkin 5-Spice to adventurous concoctions like the Sweet Potato with Torched Marshmallow (think Pancake Pantry Sweet Potato Pancakes.) The Pumpkin 5-Spice was more pumpkin than spice and would go great with their popular Brown Butter Almond Brittle flavor. If you’re someone who sticks to more traditional flavors, I would recommend the Spiced Sweet Cream, which reminded me of a mix between a chai latte and their original Sweet Cream flavor. If you feel like trying a more unique flavor, I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the Xocorosa, which is inspired by the Stoney Brew Spicy Mocha Stout. If you’re a fan of chili chocolate combinations, this one will please your palate.
If I had to give my definitive ranking of the fall flavors it would have to be:
- Xocorosa
- Sweet Potato with Torched Marshmallow
- Stoney Brew Spicy Mocha
- Spiced Sweet Cream
- Pumpkin 5-Spice
