Campus Dining recently relaunched its “Get Well Meals” program. The program allows sick students to order dietitian-designed meals on the Transact Mobile app via VandyCart. Meals can be picked up in Commons, Kissam, Rand or Highland, with a friend or roommate also being able to grab them.
Get Well Meals have both breakfast and lunch/dinner options. Breakfast meals include a banana, oatmeal, one protein bar and Gatorade. Lunch/dinner meals consist of an orange, soup, one protein bar and Gatorade. Vegan soup options are also available. All ordered meals are a part of the student meal plan and can be purchased using a meal swipe, Commodore Cash or a credit card.
In a message to The Hustler, a campus dining representative explained that the official relaunch was driven by an interest in increasing accessibility and efficiency.
“While our prior system required students to access an order form via text message, our current system is integrated with the meal plan system and available on Transact Mobile,” the representative said. “As a result, Campus Dining can offer a smoother, more streamlined process, making things faster and more efficient for those who need it the most.”
Campus Dining’s intentional approach to assisting sick students has garnered positive feedback from various students. Junior Katie Shapiro said she thought the program was a great idea.
“I hadn’t heard about the program before, but I know that when I am sick, the last thing that I want to do is eat at a dining hall,” Shapiro said. “I think this would be really beneficial to have at Vanderbilt, and I feel like a lot of students would use this when they don’t feel well.”
Sophomore Sonam Thukral said she appreciated how the meals help sick students. She also said she was grateful for the plant-based food options.
“I was really glad to hear about these pick-up meal kits, which make it easier to help us all take care of each other when the common cold gets around,” Thukral said. “As a vegetarian, I am grateful to hear about the plant-based meal options.”
