Vanderbilt Football jumped two spots in the Week 5 AP Poll to No. 18. The improvement in ranking comes after Vanderbilt’s 70-21 victory over Georgia State on Saturday night. The Commodores dominated in all phases of the game, dropping the most points in a contest since 1918. Vanderbilt now sits at 4-0 to begin the season, the best start for the program since 2008.
This is the second-straight week that the Commodores have been ranked in the AP Poll, as they were ranked No. 20 last week. Vanderbilt’s entry into the poll last Sunday marked the earliest the Commodores have ever been ranked by the AP. Key wins this season over Charleston Southern, Virginia Tech, then-No. 11 South Carolina and now Georgia State have Vanderbilt up to No. 15 on ESPN’s FPI rankings with a 99.5% chance of making a bowl game. ESPN analytics also give the Commodores a 36.4% chance of making the College Football Playoff.
Vanderbilt was also ranked No. 20 in the Week 5 Coaches Poll, up three places from last week.
Vanderbilt will look to build off its momentum when it welcomes Utah State into FirstBank Stadium at 11:45 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Sept. 27.
