Vanderbilt Men’s and Women’s Basketball both reached the NCAA Tournament in 2025. The men qualified for the first time since 2017, while the women appeared in the Big Dance for the second year in a row.

The men went 20-12 in the regular season and earned a 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament, drawing a matchup with the Saint Mary’s Gaels in the Round of 64. An 18-point performance from Jason Edwards wasn’t enough to lift the Commodores to the second round, as they fell 59-56 after two late 3-pointers from Edwards and Devin McGlokcton went off the mark.

“It’s a hard ending to a special team, a special group, that believed in us this year and helped do a lot of good things for Vanderbilt basketball and Vanderbilt University,” head coach Mark Byington said after the loss.

Head coach Shea Ralph and the women went 22-10 through the regular season and were selected as a seven seed in March Madness. They drew a matchup with Oregon in the first round but ultimately lost an overtime thriller to the Ducks, 77-73. Mikayla Blakes scored 26 points, and Khamil Pierre added 17, but a 2-for-14 shooting night from downtown made it impossible for the Commodores to complete the 19-point comeback.

“Credit to my team and our players and the growth we continue to have,“ head coach Shea Ralph said. “Obviously not the result we wanted, that doesn’t take away from the season that we had and the position that we put ourselves in.”

Both teams will look to build on their successful seasons with strong offseasons as they get ready for the start of the 2025-26 season in November.
