Many of us have been on a date where we couldn’t stop checking the time — searching for that perfect moment to present an excuse to leave and never see that person again. However, if you’ve made it this far and are looking for the perfect date idea for you and your valentine, I hope this list serves you well. While some skip the commercialized romance of Valentine’s Day, these options still offer a chance to create meaningful memories with someone special. Whether you’re rekindling the spark or trying something new, these date ideas are sure to bring joy and connection.
Recreate your first date
Anticipation and nerves can make first dates feel awkward. But since you’re reading this article, it likely means your first date led to a successful relationship. By now, you probably know each other well, but try to step into the mindset of that first meeting — all the excitement and the uncertainty. Recreating your first date can reignite a spark, breaking the routine that often settles into long-term relationships.
Play Playground Nashville
With their grand opening on Feb. 14, Play Playground Nashville promises moments of laughter and sweat. Feel like a kid again by looking back at your favorite childhood games while challenging yourself and your partner in their fun-filled activities. Whether it’s climbing, sliding or racing, Play Playground Nashville offers a space to embrace your playful side and make lasting memories together.
The Patterson House
Just a short walk from campus, The Patterson House offers a cozy, home-like atmosphere, true to its name. The Patterson House is a speakeasy whose aura is reminiscent of the prohibition era, exhibiting a vintage charm. The extensive cocktail menu is designed to cater to everyone’s preferences and tastes, ensuring that both you and your date will be satisfied. The dim lights and warm hues create a mysterious atmosphere, making it the perfect spot for a romantic date.
Bowling
As a competitive person who struggles to coordinate arms and legs, I’m definitely not in my element when I put on bowling shoes. However, some friendly competition can be a great way to rejuvenate your relationship, so consider heading to Eastside Bowl. In addition to its 16-lane bowling alley, the venue often hosts concerts and features a small vintage store. The lively atmosphere is designed to replicate a ‘50s vibe, making it a fun and energetic spot for a date.
Roller skating
As a graduating senior soon to be thrown into the deep waters of adulthood, I always try to let my inner child surface. Rivergate Skate Park is the perfect place to conjure up those memories and show off your toe-stop moonwalk, rexing and spins. Even if you’re not a professional skater, you can still glide around on your wheels while holding your partner’s hand.
Thrift store challenge
Thrifting is one of my favorite activities because you can find one-of-a-kind pieces at a low cost while actively contributing to sustainable fashion. If you’re tired of cliché Valentine’s dates and want to try something new, consider the thrift store challenge. The rules are simple: you have 30 minutes to find the perfect themed outfit for your partner. Some fun themes could be: helping to bring in the groceries/taking out the trash, Y2K popstar or mismatched madness. If you’re feeling festive, you can even come up with a Valentine’s theme!
Go on a hike
Approximately 20 minutes south of Vanderbilt, you’ll find the Warner Parks. After recently completing the 4.5-mile Mossy Ridge loop, I can confidently say it was a rewarding experience. Even though it’s February, some parts of the trail are still green, allowing hikers to enjoy the scenery. While the Mossy Ridge trail is of moderate difficulty, there are plenty of shorter, easier hikes to explore. The Warner Park Nature Center also offers picnic tables, making it a great spot for you and your partner to relax and bond over some food.
“Love Is Funny” comedy show
As due dates for assignments and midterms approach, many of us feel overwhelmed and stressed. I find comedy to be a great way to unwind and take your mind off bothersome thoughts. Shared laughter signals that you and your partner have similar worldviews, which can deepen your connection. If you’re ready to laugh, consider buying tickets for the “Love is Funny” show, taking place at Just Love Coffee Cafe at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14.
