Vanderbilt Women’s Track and Field traveled to Texas A&M’s R.A. ‘Murray’ Fasken ’38 Indoor Track and Field Facility on Jan. 25 to compete in the Ted Nelson Invitational. In short, the Commodores did not disappoint.
Vanderbilt’s day began when Taylor McKinnon clocked 8.61 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, earning an 11th-place finish. Marta Sivina ran a personal-best time of 8.66 seconds in the same event — the 10th-ranked time in school history. McKinnon’s time was not added to the school record books, as she already ranks seventh all-time with a previous personal best of 8.53 seconds. In the 60-meter sprint, first-year Alima Kassim recorded an impressive time of 7.69 seconds, securing the ninth-best mark in program history.
Audrey Allman ran a PR in the mile, racing to a 4:47.93 finish and earning fourth-place honors.
The Commodores particularly excelled in the 3,000 meters. Senior Julia Rosenberg won the event, ending the race in just 9:26.05 — a facility record. Not far behind Rosenberg was graduate student Ellie Wolski, who turned in a time of 9:35.32 to finish fourth. In doing so, Wolski shattered her personal best by 10 seconds. Seniors Cameron Fawcett and Gigi Clifford ran to sixth and eighth place finishes, respectively, with times of 9:41.48 and 9:44.11. Fawcett and Clifford set personal records for the second meet in a row, obliterating previous bests by six and nearly 15 seconds, respectively.
The Commodores’ day of success continued when Mackenzie Culpepper, Devyn Parham, Kenyah Conner and Ella Lambert won the distance medley relay, setting a facility record time of 11:40.51 in the process.
A tandem of McKinnon, Isabella Dragosa, Santana and Falon Spearman represented Vanderbilt in the 4×400 meter relay, finishing in 3:54.79 to earn eighth-place honors.
Senior Sarah Marvin produced an impressive 14.67-meter throw in the shot put, propelling her to a sixth-place finish. Junior Allyria McBride flew to a 5.99-meter mark in the long jump, placing seventh in the process. Sophomore Rowan Houston rounded out Vanderbilt’s day in College Station with a 1.67-meter clearance in the high jump, collecting fifth-place honors.
The Commodores will take a well-deserved week of rest before they head to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to compete in the East Coast Invitational from Feb. 7-8.
