I typically don’t find myself listening to indie music, but after listening to Kate Bollinger’s performance, that might change. On Oct. 25, Bollinger and her band brought The Blue Room to life with their unique and ethereal sound.
Bollinger kicked off her show with “What’s This About (La La La La).” The upbeat, fun tune energized the audience and served as a stark contrast to the next song on the setlist, “To Your Own Devices.” Throughout the evening, Bollinger switched between fast-paced, catchy beats and slower-paced, mellow ones, showing her versatility.
“Thanks y’all, this is not like the honky tonks,” Bollinger said after finishing performing her song “To Your Own Devices.”
Bollinger had several more humorous moments woven into her show. During the opening chords of “Lonely,” she started giggling, telling the pianist to pause so she could compose herself.
“[Do you guys know the “Seinfeld” episode] where George’s girlfriend’s concert gets ruined by someone laughing in the audience?” Bollinger said. “Well, you guys can laugh, cry or sneeze.”
Throughout the entire night, Bollinger enchanted me with her delicate vocals and energy. Bollinger finished the concert by taking a few song requests from her audience. Overall, I was impressed with Bollinger’s musical talent and the way she connected with her audience the entire night.
