Hometown heroes Kings of Leon took to Bridgestone Arena on Thursday night for their “Can We Please Have Fun” Tour. Their set list included over 20 of their rock ballads as well as a cover of Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own.”
Despite Hurricane Helene looming outside, the arena wowed us with a spectacular array of lights and visual effects, beginning with “Ballerina Radio,” their new album’s first track.
As lead singer Caleb Followill delivered powerful vocals, the lyrics danced along on the screen — an artful addition that livened an already impassioned performance.
Accompanying each song was a distinct color palette, but for “My Party,” we were treated to techno blue vibes and up-close camera angles of lead guitarist Matthew Followill.
The crowd was already fired up, but the group’s classic “Sex on Fire” fueled us further.
“Nashville, let’s see you dance,” Matthew Followill said. “You’re the best crowd we’ve had on the whole tour so far.”
Following “Sex on Fire,” Bridgestone Arena turned into a slow dance with a disco ball light spinning around the venue for their song “Revelry.” This softer tune was one of our favorites of the night and highlighted Caleb Followill’s ballad-like vocals.
A surprise of the night was the “Song for the City” where the group chooses a different cover song for each stop of their tour. Nashville’s “Song of the City” was “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn, and the crowd eagerly sang along.
To end off the night, fun colored balloons and beach balls dropped from the arena’s ceiling as the group played “Rainbow Ball” to open up their encore section.
Keeping the momentum, Kings of Leon closed out their show with their hit song “Use Somebody” which had everyone on their feet singing along.
As the crowd flowed out into the rainy Nashville night, the energy remained palpable, a clear sign that Kings of Leon had delivered an unforgettable show.
