If you’re on the hunt for new dining experiences around campus, make sure to add Jashan to your list. Just an eight-minute walk past Jeni’s, this vibrant new Indian restaurant offers a delightful array of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes that cater to every palate. As soon as we stepped into Jashan, we were welcomed by an intimate, dimly lit atmosphere where nearly every table was occupied. The walls, adorned with eclectic art and a striking mural near the bar, instantly caught our attention, setting a lively yet sophisticated tone.
Amidst the upbeat techno music playing in the background and the friendly chatter of waiters dressed in formal attire, we felt miles away from campus. The combination of music, decor and the staff’s attire reminded us of upscale Indian restaurants in India.
Akshay Grover, the gracious owner, greeted us warmly and shared the inspiring story behind Jashan. After the success of his other restaurant, Sindoore, named one of Yelp’s top 100 restaurants in the country, Grover was inspired to create a unique dining experience in Hillsboro where guests could savor the rich flavors of traditional Indian cuisine.
“The name ‘Jashan’ means celebration,” Grover said. “And we believe that every moment is worth celebrating.”
Indeed, with its vibrant ambiance, welcoming service and an extensive menu of reasonably priced dishes, Jashan seems to be doing just that — creating a dining celebration that invites everyone to partake. Here are our reviews and some of Grover’s recommendations.
Appetizer
Lamb birria tacos: $14.00
Areli: Served on a flour tortilla and filled with lamb, tomato, onion and cilantro, the lamb birria tacos offered a unique twist with a rogan josh-style dipping sauce. This creative spin on the traditional Mexican dish perfectly balanced the flavors.
Rating: 8/10
If you are looking to be adventurous and try other fusion dishes, make sure to look at the rest of the small bites. Grover suggests the Maggi ramen and tacos we tried.
Drink
Mango lassi: $4.00
Daniela: This was honestly the best mango lassi I’ve ever had. I usually find mango lassis a bit too sweet for my taste, but this one struck the perfect balance between sweet and tangy, making it incredibly refreshing. Its thick, creamy texture added to the indulgent experience, and at its price point, it’s definitely worth adding to your order!
Rating: 9/10

Chicken tikka masala: $18.00
Scarlett: I love chicken tikka masala — it’s one of the dishes I always make sure to order whenever I go to a new Indian restaurant. At Jashan, it certainly met my expectations. The chicken was tender and perfectly bite-sized, but my favorite part was the sauce, which was slightly sweet and incredibly creamy. I would return to Jashan just for this dish.
Rating: 8.5/10
Lamb korma: $18.00
Areli: Jashan’s lamb korma is melt-in-your-mouth delicious, featuring a creamy sauce and lamb cooked to perfection. The well-balanced flavors, paired with rice and garlic naan, make each bite irresistible and leave you craving more.
Rating: 9/10
Saag paneer: $15.00
Daniela: Saag paneer is one of my favorite Indian dishes, and Jashan did not disappoint. The paneer was perfectly tender, nestled in a rich spinach sauce. If you’re looking for a flavorful vegetarian dish, this one is a must-try.
Rating: 8/10
Grover also suggested the Mughlai lamb chops and Peshawari steak entrees for meat lovers, while the shredded paneer tikka masala and Malai kofta were the dishes he pointed out for vegetarians.
Dessert
Cardamom brownie with chai ice cream: $12.00
Scarlett: Brownies at restaurants can be overly rich or too sweet, especially when paired with ice cream, but this chocolate brownie had just the right sweetness, enhanced by subtle hints of cardamom. As a chai lover, the ice cream was perfect for me — one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.
Rating: 9.5/10
Alongside the brownie, Grover suggested the chocolate pani puri for dessert.
