Ahead of the 2024 season, Vanderbilt has added another talented player to its quarterback room: former New Mexico State starting quarterback Diego Pavia. The quarterback shared his decision in an announcement made on X.

A three-star transfer, Pavia is the reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and led the Aggies to a 10-5 record and a bowl appearance in his second year as the starter. Pavia played in 15 games in 2023, and threw for 2,973 yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 928 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground as a true dual-threat option. In coming to Nashville, Pavia will join his former coaches in Jerry Kill and Tim Beck, who both joined Vanderbilt during the offseason. Pavia is now the 14th player to join Clark Lea and the Commodores via the transfer portal in an offseason filled with turnover.

Despite his familiarity and previous success with Vanderbilt’s coaching staff, it is unclear if Pavia will be the Commodores’ starter in 2024. After losing all three quarterbacks who took a snap in 2023, Vanderbilt has already added three quarterbacks ahead of next season, most notably four-star transfer Nate Johnson from Utah. For now, it appears an offseason battle between the two will decide who leads the Commodores’ offense next year.
