On Jan. 11, ESPN’s Pete Thamel announced via X that Jerry Kill will be joining Clark Lea’s staff in an off-field consulting role. Kill spent the past two seasons as head coach of the New Mexico State Aggies where he went 17-11 in games coached. After the 2023 season, Kill retired from coaching.
Kill will likely work closely with offensive coordinator Tim Beck, who spent two seasons with Kill at New Mexico State and one season with Kill at TCU.
Kill previously held head coaching roles at Saginaw Valley State (1994–1998), Emporia State (1999–2000), Southern Illinois (2001–2007), Northern Illinois (2008–2010) and Minnesota (2011–2015).
Along with the addition of Beck and Kill to the coaching staff, Lea added two former New Mexico State coaches to his staff this week. The additions include Melvin Rice, who will be Vanderbilt’s safeties coach, and Garrett Altman, who will be an offensive analyst for Vanderbilt.
