Parker Noland, a four-year starter for the Commodores, committed to South Carolina as a graduate transfer after entering the transfer portal 10 days ago. Noland will join Matt Hogan and Gavin Casas on the list of former Commodores to join the Gamecocks since 2022.
Noland played high school baseball in Farragut, Tenn., where he posted the highest batting average ever in a season (.520) at his high school before making the trip west to Nashville. In his first year as a Commodore, Noland was second among all Vanderbilt freshmen in hits before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
As a sophomore, Noland started all but one of Vanderbilt’s games. His 64 hits ranked fourth on the team while his 43 RBIs ranked third for the Commodores. Noland also launched seven home runs during the campaign.
Noland moved around the infield throughout his first two years in Nashville, but he found a home for himself at first base during his junior year. In the 48 games Noland played as a junior, he posted a .274 average, the best mark he had recorded in his college career to that point.
Noland saved his best for last, though, posting a senior-year slash line of .277/.367/.455. His nine home runs tied him for second amongst his teammates and his 39 RBIs ranked fourth among the Commodores.
Noland is the fourth Commodore to transfer following the 2023 season, joining TJ McKenzie, Ivan Arias and Cade Law. There was speculation that Noland would again try his luck in the MLB Draft later this month after being selected by the Marlins back in 2019, but he instead opted to join a South Carolina squad that finished third in the SEC East last season, just a half a game behind Vanderbilt.
Noland finishes his Vanderbilt career with a .269 batting average, a .351 on-base percentage, 183 hits, 22 home runs, 37 doubles and 119 RBIs.
