Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball suffered another loss this offseason, The Hustler learned on Wednesday.
Assistant coach Adam Mazarei, who has been with the program for all four of Jerry Stackhouse’s seasons, will not be back on West End next year. Multiple sources confirmed the news to The Hustler. Sources close to the situation named UC Berkeley as a destination to watch for Mazarei.
Mazarei has served as a key developmental coach over his four years at Vanderbilt and earned a promotion to associate head coach prior to the 2022-23 season. Before coming to the college ranks, Mazarei was an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies for six seasons.
The California native saw four Commodores — Aaron Nesmith, Saben Lee, Scotty Pippen Jr. and Tyrin Lawrence — declare for the NBA Draft under his watch. He was cited as an instrumental figure in many of Vanderbilt’s West Coast recruiting pursuits, including landing the commitment of point guard Ezra Manjon. Sources linked Mazarei to the assistant coach opening at Cal Berkeley.
