Dear Vanderbilt,
Over the past few months, you’ve helped us expand our coverage of the Vanderbubble dramatically. Today, I’m excited to update you on the latest aspect of this expansion: The section formerly known as the Multimedia section will now be known as the Photography section.
Until recently, photography was largely The Hustler’s only self-curated multimedia outlet. This semester, though, The Hustler has broadened our multimedia content to include a Podcasts section that produces six consistent podcasts, including four that were created this fall. The growth of our graphics team has also led to more widespread use of feature graphics, infographics and data visualizations. Our staff photographers and editors have put their all into increasing and improving The Hustler’s photography content. Through their hard work, we’ve published twice-weekly visual essays and biweekly home sports roundups and have started publishing weekly photo of the week features. In just a few months, we’ve also doubled our concert coverage and photography staff size from the 2021-22 academic year, totaling approximately 40 concerts and 30 staff photographers so far. Recently, the Hustler even won 13 awards for our multimedia content over the past year.
Due to this growth, we’ve determined that the name “Multimedia” no longer suits this section. As such, it has been renamed to the Photography section, and it, along with our Podcasts and Graphics sections, will now be housed under an overarching Multimedia category.
This shift will not alter the leadership and existing content of The Hustler. Rather, it simply reorganizes our coverage into more representative sections, unified under one category. This change also leaves the door open for future Hustler multimedia endeavors.
I’m so proud of our staff’s dedication to The Hustler and their commitment to growth and creativity. We look forward to continuing to tell stories through images under this new organization. In turn, I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any multimedia ideas that you want to bring to The Hustler. You can contact me at [email protected]. And, as always, thank you for reading and supporting The Hustler—our coverage relies on your willingness to tell your stories, and we are so grateful to have the privilege of sharing them.
Anchor down,
Rachael
