On May 2 at around 3:30 a.m. CDT, a shooting occurred at the intersection of 31st Avenue and West End Avenue. According to a WKRN report, a 29-year-old man was found near the scene with critical injuries and a gunshot to the chest and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The victim is expected to survive, according to the Metro Nashville Police Deparment (MNPD). The department is currently investigating the incident, but no suspects have been identified yet.

The Vanderbilt community received AlertVU messages at around 3:45 a.m. CDT to take shelter and avoid the scene of the crime. An update was sent at around 4:15 a.m. CDT.

“UPDATE! Police are on scene investigating. The suspect has fled the area. Campus may resume normal activities,” the message reads.

MNPD reduced West End Avenue to one lane of travel during their on-site investigation but have since reopened it, according to the WKRN article.

The Vanderbilt University Police Department (VUPD) as well as the Metro Nashville Police Department did not respond to The Hustler’s request for comment.
