Although this year’s Super Bowl will look different from the last, you can still keep the spirit of this special Sunday alive by making dorm-friendly versions of your favorite football foods. Whether you like it savory, spicy or sweet, we picked out three easy-to-make snacks that are sure to be crowd pleasers for you and your “family” unit.
Seven layer dip
Alright chefs, gather your materials. You’re going to need a deep dish, shredded cheddar cheese, the salsa of your choice, a can of refried beans, two avocados (or guacamole) and scallions (they’re just fancy onions, totally optional). First, coat the bottom of your dish with the refried beans using a spoon or spatula. Next, mash up your avocado with a fork and spread it across the beans (if you choose to use guacamole, just layer it over the beans). Pour salsa over the avocado layer and top with shredded cheese and/or chopped up scallions. Time to enjoy—dive in with some Tostitos Scoops (a classic) and see how much dip you can fit on one chip!
Buffalo popcorn
Unfortunately, you can’t make wings in a dorm (at least we can’t), but you can make the next best thing: popcorn. Try this buffalo-spiced popcorn to satisfy your wing craving without the hassle, the money or the mess. It seems like a weird combination, but it’s the first rule of cheffery: opposites attract. Simply microwave your popcorn, and then microwave two tablespoons of any buffalo sauce combined with two tablespoons of butter for about 20 seconds. Next, pour your buffalo sauce over your popcorn in a big bowl and toss. This combo is like the Buccaneers’ Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski—a power duo.
S’mores dip
Got room for s’more? (We’re cringing with you). These salty snacks need to be followed by something sweet. Finish up your Super Bowl eats with a quick, easy and addictingly delicious microwavable s’mores dip. Simply fill a small cake pan (or a bowl if you don’t have one) with Hershey’s chocolate (or Reese’s cups if you’re a peanut butter lover like me). Next, line the top of the pan with marshmallows on top of the chocolate layer. Stick that baby in the microwave for about 45 seconds (or until the marshmallows and chocolate look melted to your preference) and voila—a two-step dessert! Swap out those Tostitos scoops from earlier for some graham crackers, dip them in and enjoy.
Happy Super Bowl LV! We hope these recipes help you find ways to continue to celebrate and have fun safely.
