Peabody Masters student Gisele Umuhire has passed away, per an Aug. 19 email from Dean of Students Mark Bandas.
The email states that no foul play is suspected in Umuhire’s death, although the official cause is unknown at this time. Umuhire, a Nashville native, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human and Organizational Development on the Health and Human Services track from Vanderbilt in 2016. She was a rising third year, pursuing a Masters in Human Development Counseling.
Umuhire had also volunteered locally with the YWCA Dress for Success program.
“She was a beloved member of the Human Development Counseling community; deeply saddened by this tragic loss, they will remember Gisele fondly,” the email reads. “We extend our deepest condolences to Gisele’s family, friends, classmates and faculty. Our entire community mourns her loss.”
The email encourages students to utilize resources such as the University Counseling Center (UCC), the Office of Student Care Coordination, Office of Religious Life, and Griefnet service.
