At 2:19 p.m. CDT on June 2, the Vanderbilt ALERTVU system sent out an announcement to the Vanderbilt community warning of a reported car fire at South Garage, located at 2200 Children’s Way.
The full text of the message from ALERTVU is below:
“Alert! A car fire has been reported at South Garage located at 2200 Children’s Way. Follow the emergency evacuation plan for your location and use caution when in the area. Emergency personnel are responding. Non-emergency updates will be posted on alertvu.vanderbilt.edu as it becomes available.”
As of 2:50 p.m., the Nashville Fire Department had put out the fire and cleared the area, allowing roads to reopen, according to a Vanderbilt LifeFlight communications representative.
As of 4:12 p.m., the Vanderbilt University Police Department (VUPD) is investigating the cause of the fire, which is undetermined. The vehicle that was on fire was a Dodge RAM pickup, and adjacent vehicles on either side may have sustained ancillary damage, however, the fire was mostly contained to the pickup, according to Vanderbilt University Medical Center Chief Communications Officer John Howser.
