What: Chancellor’s Lecture featuring Patrick Kennedy
When: Tuesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Langford Auditorium
Why: Upon stepping away from Congress in 2011, Patrick J. Kennedy made a promise: to be a vocal advocate for the full implementation of the 2008 Parity law, which guaranteed equal access to mental health and addiction services for all Americans. Join Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos as he hosts Rep. Kennedy for an intimate discussion that emphasizes the importance of mental health resources on college campuses and beyond.

What:  Life on Mars
When: Tuesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Kissam MPR
Why: Moore College Council invited Dr. Weintraub to give a brief talk on possible life on Mars. There will be a screening of The Martian afterwards with dinner provided.

What: Why State and Local Elections Matter
When: Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Alumni Hall 100
Why: Alternative Spring Break partners with the Tennessee Equality Project to focus on the importance of local and state politics. There will be a combination of small group discussions and a panel discussion.

What: Joe Hill Road Show
When: Wednesday, March 14 at 4:10 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Where: Divinity 124
Why: Joe Hill’s songs fanned the flames of discontent in the early 20th century, becoming anthems of the Industrial Workers of the World labor union. Hill was executed in 1915 for a murder he possibly did not commit, but his music has lived on to influence generations of social and political protest music.

What: Hermanas in Crime Symposium
When: Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Central Library Community Room
Why: Featured authors Joy Castro, Teresa Dovalpage, Alicia Gaspar de Alba and Lucha Corpi visit campus for readings and book discussions.

What: Vanderbilt National School Walkout
When: Wednesday, March 14 at 10 a.m. to 10:17 a.m.
Where: Jean and Alexander Library
Why: In light of the recent shooting in Parkland, Vanderbilt students will gather for the movement against gun violence. Students will choose to leave their classes for 17 minutes from 10 a.m. to 10:17 a.m. to show their support.

What: Crafting with Kesem
When: Thursday, March 15 at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Sarratt Promenade
Why: Camp Kesem at Vanderbilt is a local chapter of a national nonprofit that provides a free week of camp for children in Tennessee affected by a parent’s cancer. One of the most meaningful events at camp is creating a support tree, which is made of leaves and flowers that campers and counselors decorate. Come decorate leaves and learn about Kesem. There will be Bartaco and t-shirts available for a suggested donation.

What: Vitality Spring Showcase
When: Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Ingram Hall at Blair
Why: Come watch Vitality’s Spring showcase as the group explores the fantastical world of the Greek Olympians. The show is free for undergraduates.

What: RAW: Nashville presents Envision
When: Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: City Winery
Why: The night will begin with a pop-up art gallery, where patrons are encouraged to observe and appreciate the works of their talented local community and are welcome to make purchases. The gallery will remain open all night.

What:  Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
When: Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Tennessee Performing Arts Center
Why: Following a five-week season launch in New York City, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will continue to grace the Nashville stage during its 21-city North American tour.

What: PRIDE Training
When: Tuesday, March 13 at 5:30 p.n. To 8:30 p.m.
Where: Kissam Classroom 216
Why: The P.R.I.D.E. program aims to create a visible network of support for LGBTQI individuals and their allies by providing an avenue through which any member of the Vanderbilt Community can show their support. The training is three hours and happens two to three times per semester.
Who: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Life

What: Silent Meditation
When: Thursday, March 15 at 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Where: Center for Student Wellbeing
Why: Come to the Center for Student Wellbeing for a silent meditation practice.  Meditation is helpful tool to manage stress, increase academic performance and become less reactionary in everyday situations.  All levels are welcome; no experience is needed.
