What: Holocaust Lecture Series: “Where Memory Leads”
When: Friday, January 26 at 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Benton Chapel
Why: Jennifer Teege, an international best-selling author, will be the HLS keynoter for spring semester. At age 38, Teege happened to pluck a library book from the shelf, having no idea that her life would be irrevocably altered. Recognizing photos of her mother and grandmother in the book, she discovered a horrifying fact: her grandfather was Amon Goeth, the vicious Nazi commandant chillingly depicted by Ralph Fiennes in Schindler’s List.

Why: VIDA, Vanderbilt’s premier Latin dance group, is hosting auditions and looking looking for fresh talent to join our group.

What: Sahana Balasubramanya – Indian Classical Dance (Bharata Natyam)
When: Saturday, January 27 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Sri Ganesha Temple
Why: Sahana Balasubramanya performs globally as an active solo dancer and as a member of her teacher’s dance troupe. Sahana was honored by selection as lead Bharata Natyam dancer for the opening ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She has won innumerable awards from art organizations and media outlets. A recipient of many academic excellence awards, Sahana is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Mathematics at Vanderbilt University.

What: Vanderbilt University Dance Marathon: Battle of the Bands
When: Saturday, January 27 at 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: 208 House
Why: The first annual VUDM Battle of the Bands invites four bands to perform for the voting audience. At the end of the night, one band will win the honor of opening for Music Group’s Rites of Spring in April. Tickets are $7 on the Commodore Card, and every ticket sale goes directly to VUDM’s fundraising total and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Why: VPB’s CityVU is taking Vanderbilt students to Nashville Escape Game to try out one of their famous mystery rooms. In order to win, students must apply through the link that is sent out in a school-wide email. The winners will be randomly selected and notified by email.

What: C.S. Lewis On Stage: The Most Reluctant Convert Nashville, TN
When: Friday, January 26 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, January 27 at 4 p.m.
Where: Tennessee Performing Arts Center
Why: In a one-man play, Max McLean captures the spiritual and emotional journey of Narnia’s author C.S. Lewis from atheism to Christianity. Following a wildly received extended run in New York and fall tour, the show is now preparing for a spring tour visiting several American cities.

What: MAPS (Mental Health Awareness & Prevention of Suicide) Spring 2018

Where: Center for Student Wellbeing
Why: MAPS training is a joint initiative between the Psychological & Counseling Center and the Center for Student Wellbeing designed to prevent suicide in the campus community and increase mental health awareness. In the two-hour session, you will have the opportunity to learn suicide statistics, warning signs, risk factors and suicide myths. Sign up here.
