There was something in the air at Cannery Ballroom.The room was filled with trend-setters of all ages; college kids and young adults alike sprinkled around the dimly lit space, waiting for St. Lucia, the band they were here to see, to take the stage. Numerous instruments dawned the stage while remixes played behind conversations.

The show started with a local Nashville group known as kind KIND as the opening band. Combining new wave synth techniques with groovy basslines, KIND did an impressive job warming up the crowd.

After a brief break, a blue and green neon light show hit the stage as St. Lucia entered. They sent the audience into a time warp kicking the show off with their dreamy 2012 hit, “Closer Than This”.

Jean, the band’s frontman, turned “Help Me Run Away” into a complete sing along. The crowd repeated the line right back to the band with so much fervor, as if they were going to escape the town together tonight.

Shortly after, the band decided to slow it down with their soulful ballad “Love Somebody”. Red lights came up as Jean hopped over the rail and came down into the crowd. The crowd opened, creating a path for him to walk through. Fingers were snapping and hips grooving as he made his way singing to everyone, even people in the very back of the room.

St. Lucia brought the crowd right back up with a track off the new album, “Game 4 U”. Jean played his acoustic guitar, every so often looking longingly over to his wife, Patti, who watched the whole show. By the end of the catchy tune everyone was singing along.

After a short disappearing act, they reemerged for an encore unlike any other. “Elevate” was their final track and they did not hold back. Percussionist Nick Paul even came down from behind his keyboard and bongos to jump with the crowd. They ended the night full of  energy, everyone jumping, sweaty and super-charged off of the lively music.
